4K power with two independent tuners

 

The VU+ DUO² offers solid computing power with its 1,300 MHz dual-core MIPS processor, which will be particularly appreciated by users with more demanding needs. It supports two plug-and-play tuners (e.g., DVB-S2 or DVB-C/T), enabling simultaneous recording and television viewing. Gigabit LAN and integrated WLAN are also included, and the Linux (Enigma2)-based system allows for extensive configuration options.

 

User functions & interfaces

The features leave little to be desired: HDMI 1.4, SCART, composite, SPDIF, multiple USB ports, and internal SATA drive bays for 2.5" or 3.5" hard drives are all included. The DUO² supports streaming, transcoding, and HbbTV – ideal for playing HDTV content on mobile devices via Wi-Fi. Tests also showed the remote control to be well-made and programmable, allowing for control of both the TV and AV receiver with a single device.

 

Information for owners and interested parties

Thanks to its open Linux system, the DUO² only reaches its full potential with the use of plugins and appropriate configuration – this can be somewhat overwhelming for beginners. While the processor is powerful, it's no longer state-of-the-art compared to current UHD models – HEVC support for 4K is missing. And when installing larger 3.5" hard drives, noise levels should be considered; those who prefer a quieter living room should opt for a 2.5" drive or a quieter mounting bracket.
